ANDALUCIA TOURISM NEWS 19-26 JUNE

FRESH FISH CAMPAIGN
150 boats and 10,000 crew fish in the Andalucian fishing waters, from where they take some 60,000 tons of fish - 60% if the total catch of the Andalucian fishing sector.
Its quality fresh fish and well appreciated by the consumer, especially by the tourists who come to the Costa del Sol. The new advertising campaign organised by the Junta de Andalucía will promote the consumption of this fish using the slogan ‘fresh, health and tasty’
The campaign has a budget of 300 million pesetas. It will take place from June in the press, radio and television and highlight the qualities of the product so that they can be identified more easily.

ALGECIRAS FAIR
Dancing and fun area guaranteed in the Cadíz town of Algeciras from 23 June to July 1, when the town celebrates its annual fair - a fiesta declared to be of national tourist interest. Carriages and horse riders will fill the streets on the way to the fairground situated in the María Cristina park. Here we can also enjoy horse riding competitions and the famous bullfights, as well as spectacular fireworks. Algeciras also conserves the tradition of a cattle market with a display of local breeds. Don’t forget - from Saturday until Sunday of next week you have the chance of enjoying one of the most colourful fiestas in Cádiz province.

WORLD AIR GAMES
Fans of adventure sports will not want to miss the 2nd world air competitions which are being held in different Andalucian cities from June 23 to June 30. A total of 47 countries are taking part in these spectacular games, grouped into 11 sections, such as parachuting, hang gliding, aerobatics, microlights and hot air balloons. A grand event which takes place in some of the best Andalucian settings, such as the peaks of the Sierra Nevada where unbeatable conditions are found for hang gliding. The localities of Algodonales and Jerez in Cádiz province, Palma del Rio in Córdoba, Beas de Segura in Jaén and Seville, are some of the places where these aero games will be held. An opportunity to contemplate a grand spectacle, a mixture of sport, danger and adventure, in some of the best landscapes of Andalucía.

MERCADO ANDALUSI
This is a typical market as seen in the 12th -14th centuries of Al Andalus - Crafts, fruits and essential oils on stalls which reproduce the picturesque and busy atmosphere of such an arab market. This promotion is taking place in several villages in Cádiz. The sellers are craftspeople from the province, dressed in clothes of the time to sell similar handicrafts and local cuisine. Here we can obtain oils, liqueurs, plants and tiles as well as baskets and perfumes. The andalusi market and its more than 30 stalls will cover the municipalities of the province where the architecture and streets remind us of the arab Andalucian past. The month of July we can see it in Conil and Verjer de la Frontera and in Sanlúcar de Barameda and in August in Cádiz and Tarifa.

ANGEL BARRIOS MUSEUM - LA ALHAMBRA
The visitors to the Alhambra in Granada can this month visit the Angel Barrios museum as part of the programme organised by the management of the Alhambra and Generalife which occasionally opens areas of the monument generally closed to the public as they are not suitable for large numbers of people. Entrance to the museum is included in the normal ticket and can been seen on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 0830am to 8pm. The area created for the Granada composer and guitarist Angel Barrios is in Calle Real, next to the baths of the Mosque. The artists youth was spent in his father’s tavern, where artists and travellers to the Alhambra were common and where they left souvenirs of paintings, sketches and other memorabilia.

TOURIST BOARD WEBPAGE
It’s now possible to make a virtual visit to the province of Málaga with the new Costa del Sol tourist board webpage. The address is and lets us travel to the most touristy towns of the province and admire splendid landscapes which show us the beauty of the city and the villages of Málaga. It’s also possible to make reserves using connections to the Andalucian Tourism reserve centre. The new page is seen as a tool to promote the Costa del Sol, adapting to new technologies. Two of the countries with most people online - Germany and Great Britain are precisely two of the countries from where most of the tourists who visit the Costa del Sol come from.

HORSERACING PRIZE
The Mijas horse race track has already ended its spring season. From now horse racing will be held on Saturdays from 11pm. The season ended with the celebration of the first Andalucia Radio Television prize with 2.5 million pesetas in prize money and which was won by the horse Persian Ruler and run over a distance of 2.4kms. The Mijas racetrack has excellent facilities and is part of the great leisure offer on the heart of the Costa del Sol between the airport and Marbella. Here a crowd of fans gather each weekend and can see the best horses from different European stables. Among the most immediate projects at the race course is the construction of a grand stand to hold a larger number of spectators.

AGENDA
The Spanish national orchestra and choir perform next Sunday the 24th June in the Carlos V palace in Granada - as part of the International Festival of Music and Dance which continues in the city until July 8.

The Cádiz town of Algeciras holds its feria between Saturday 23 and Monday 25 of this month, during which time a cattle competition and show will take place.

The first medieval market of crafts and subbetic cuisine is held between Friday 22 and Sunday 24 June in the Córdoba village of Zuheros.

The Pineda royal golf club in Seville hosts the International individual Seniors championship of Andalucia - the Unicaja golf cup on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 of this month.

The Cabo de Gata feria and bullfighting feria are held in this Almeria village between Saturday 23 June and Sunday July 1 Lanjaraon, in the province of Granada, holds its typical water and ham fiesta between Saturday 23 and Tuesday 26 June. In addition you can see a fancy dress parade known as The Public.

The music of the 80's highlights several free concerts in the Malaga provincial cultural centre. Tuesday 26 of this month sees McNamara and the following day, Wed 27 it’s Paco Clavel.

The Andalucía Volley Ball championships are played from Tuesday 19 June to July 22 in the coastal provinces of Andalucía - Almería, Granada, Málaga, Cádiz and Huelva.

The exhibition ‘The cities and memories of Xavier Montsalvatge’ remains open until June 30 in the Galería Contemporánea in Granada.

From Friday 22 June to Sunday July 1 the Jaen town of Beas de Segura holds the second Air games in the microlight category.

The Andalucía Theatre company performs Orthello in the Central Theatre in Seville until Saturday June 30.

One of the first large fiestas of the summer takes place in Alhaurín de la Torre, Málaga province, between Thursday 21 and Money 25 of June - the feria of San Juan.

The spring theatre show with local and national companies takes place in Cazorla, Jaen until June 30.

The Granada locality of Vélez de Benaudalla holds its fiestas in honour of San Antonio until Sunday 24 of this month - during which there is the traditional representation of Moors and Christians.
