WORKSHOP IN ÚBEDA AND BAEZA
The inland Andalucía tourism centre CENTIA is doing what it can to ensure that
the towns of Úbeda and Baeza are included in the world heritage sites list from
UNESCO, the United Nations organisation for Education and Culture.
To this end CENTIA has organised a workshop in the city of Valencia where 23
companies from the tourism sectors in Úbeda and Baeza have presented their
restaurant and accommodation services as well as monument routes to more than
50 Valencian travel agents.
The event intends to attract the tourist from Valencia to these two renaissance
cities, but with the main aim of supporting the naming of Úbeda and Baeza as
world heritage sites.
All those to attend the workshop have been given numerous guides to the
province of Jáen as well as a bottle of its star product – olive oil.
The event which saw great support from the Valencian tourism sector, ended with
a gastronomic feast from Úbeda and Baeza restaurant owners, where those present
could try delights such as pork fillet in an earthenware dish, the rim-ram or
the farmhouse breadcrumbs among other dishes.
So that the event did not lose any Andalucian flavour, the Casa de Andalucía in
Paterna delighted those present with a folklore demonstration.
PICASSO HONOURS THE BULLFIGHTER
Some 50 works from Pablo Picasso, brought together by the family of the matador
Luis Miguel Dominguín, make up the exhibition 'Picasso – Praise for the
bullfighter' which is on in the Cádiz Provincial Palace.
The collection of works ranges from drawings to engravings, collage and ceramic
pieces which the Dominguín-Bosé family have collected over years.
Given the relationship between the Málaga painter and the bullfighter's family,
these works have a great sentimental value.
Among the original documents to be found in the exhibition, the drawing of a
project for a bullring designed by Picasso, Luis Muiguel Dominguín and the
architect Antonio Bonet planned to be constructed in the Casa de Campo in
Madrid is outstanding.
As a complementary event to this show, which remains in the Cádiz Provincial
palace until June 30, a series of photographs of Dominguín dressing Picasso as
a bullfighter are on show.
TOURIST BOARD WEB PAGE PRIZE
The Junta de Andalucía tourism web page has been given a prize by the Agent
Travel magazine for the best tourist information service in Spain in 2001.
For the awarding of this prize the magazine carried out a monthly survey of 70
travel agencies last year where they valued the work carried out in different
areas related to the tourism sector, such as airlines, hotels and travel
agents. The official site of Andalucian Tourism www.andalucia.org is one of
the most visited pages in the sector nationally and last April received more
than 100,000 visits. In addition new features such as the Thematic Guide to
Flamenco have been introduced for all those interested in this display of
Andalucian culture.
RECOVERY OF TOURISM IN DOÑANA
The Doñana Nature Park in Huelva will this year recover the international
tourism it lost following the breakage in the Aznalcóllar dam some four years
ago. The association of active tourism companies in Doñana has forecast that
more than 85,000 people will visit the park and the district this year, and of
these approximately 80% are Spaniards and the remaining 20% foreigners from
Great Britain, Germany, Holland and Scandinavian countries.
The campaigns organised by central government and the Junta de Andalucía have
helped national tourism to recover in 1999 and reach the same levels of before
the breaking of the mining dam.
This year Doñana will finally recover the numbers of international visitors who
can admire the beauty and richness of the flora and fauna of this National Park.
GENALGUACIL MUSEUM
The locality of Genalguacil, in the heart of the Genal valley in Málaga, will
have a museum and visitors centre before the end of the year.
The Junta de Andalucía has already started the construction works which have a
budget of more than 250,000 €.
The future Genalguacil visitors centre will have an area where visitors can
contemplate some of the forms of rural life specific to this district of the
Ronda mountain range.
This small Málaga province village, which likes to consider itself as the only
open air museum, where the residents are the conservationists and guides, will
celebrate the sixth 'Valle del Genal' art meet between August 1 and 15.
Earlier editions have left the street of the village with 50 sculptures and
numerous paintings and works of art which have passed into the ownership of the
municipality.
The works which can not stand the weather will be kept in a municipal building
until the new Modern Art Museum is opened.
VINOBLE 2002
The town of Jerez de la Frontera, in Cádiz province, has, among its
attractions, some exquisite wines recognised around the world. Until June 1
the locality celebrates the Third International Noble Wine Festival, Vinoble
2002, which attracts the best wine connoisseurs and tasters from across the
world.
The best display of sweet, generous and fortified wines will be present in the
Jerez Alcázar. 17 countries, five more than in the last edition, and a hundred
production areas are taking part in this event which is held every two years.
All this, in more than 80 stands and also in the presence of more than 100
buyers, principally from Europe, America, Japan and Australia to see the best
wines and vintages brought to Vinoble, and not forgetting those from Jerez,
Montilla or Málaga representing Spain.
An occasion to see the real jewels of the wine making world brought together.
