PICASSO ANNIVERSARY
The Málaga museum is hosting an exhibition called ‘The past and present of the
Municipal artistic heritage 1881-2001'. It continues until November 25 and
coincides with the 120th anniversary of Picasso’s birth.
The exhibition brings together a selection of 79 works, some of them not seen
before because of their size or state of repair. The nineteenth century works
which represent the date of 1881, when Picasso was born and the first museum of
the city was founded, are mixed in the different rooms with the present
represented by works wrapped in the spirit of Picasso.
Meanwhile everyone in Málaga is looking ahead to the opening if the future
Picasso Museum. The construction works underway in the Buenavista Palace,
which dates from the renaissance, are moving ahead well.
The architects have changed the original designs to adapt them better to what
was the old Jewish quarter of Málaga.
The portrait of Olga Koklova which Picasso dedicated to his first wife in 1907,
is one of the jewels which will form part of the permanent collection of the
museum.
The new gallery, with a total of 186 works of great value, is to be born thanks
to the generosity of Cristine Picasso, the painter’s daughter in law, and his
grandson Bernard, who in this way are meeting the painter’s wish to have a
museum with his work in his native city.
CONSERVATION OF THE MARINE BIRDS IN THE STRAIT
The Strait of Gibraltar is an obliged step in the migration of a great number
of species of coastal and marine birds. That makes this an important area for
the study of the biological cycle of these species, and the use of the
information later in the birds’ conservation.
The project, the first phase of which continues until the end of November, has
a budget of 3 million pesetas and intends to also use the information obtained
for the detection of possible environmental problems, given that the marine
birds are indicators of the quality of the seas.
Last year more than 850,000 birds from 39 different species were spotted
between the months of July and November from the 11 observation posts set up in
inland and coastal points close to the Strait of Gibraltar.

NIEBLA MEDIEVAL FAIR
A village from inland Huelva province, Niebla, has gone back several centuries
into the past to spend a few days in medieval times.
Between November 1 - 4 a Medieval fair has been held in this beautiful village
which has recreated the life of that time.
Medieval markets with work and craft shops, which each day have shown their
wares in the Niebla castle.
Theatrical reenactions of public hearings, medieval games and fire spectacles
in the castle have animated each day of this fair with music, dance and
medieval song.
During this time it has also been possible to visit an exhibition of birds of
prey and related items to falconry.
At the same time as the Medieval fair, the 8th falconry championship with
partridges and dogs has taken place in Niebla and Villarrasa, two places which
have been a meeting point for one of the oldest forms of hunting carried out by
man.

international nature of the artistic career of one of the best dancers of the
moment, Sara Baras, in order to promote our region.
This artist, from the Cádiz town of San Fernando, has shown herself to be very
sensitive when it comes to understanding the importance and responsibility of
being the image which will sell Andalucía across the world.
The tourism board hopes that in this way a modern, dynamic and young Andalucía
will be displayed. Sara Baras will appear on the hoardings from the board and
will combine some performances of her tour with promotional acts for tourism in
Andalucía.
