SEVILLE CITY HALL REPLIES TO COMMENTS IN DAN BROWN BOOK

Seville City Hall has invited United States author Dan Brown to visit the city, following his third world descriptions of the city in the re-launched novel, Digital Fortress. The author of the Da Vinci Code paints a dirty city full of corruption and lacking technological advancement, where the hospitals smell of urine, the phones work like roulette wheels, and the police are easily bribed. The proud people of Seville are especially upset about his comments about the symbol of the city – La Giralda. He says – 'The stairs are steep, tourists have died here. This is not America, there are no safety signs, no handrail and no warnings about insurance policies. This is Spain. If one is stupid enough to fall here, it's your own fault, independent of who built the stairs'. In fact the Giralda, the 70m bell chamber is climbed by a 34 story ramp which has a slope which eases towards the top to ease climbing.
