Demonstrations were held in Madrid and other Spanish cities on Saturday
Thousands of people demonstrated in Madrid on Saturday in demand of the legalisation of cannabis. A good humoured march went from the Puerta del Sol to the Plaza de Oriente, but took a long time because of the chant ‘otra paradita, otro petita’ – ‘another pause, another drag’.
Other smaller protests were also held in Alicante, Bilbao, León, Málaga, Vigo, Zaragoza, La Laguna and Las Palmas.
The events were timed to coincide with the ‘World March for Marihuana 2007’ in which 232 cities took part worldwide.
Meanwhile a man has been sentenced to a year in prison and fined 3,800 € for the cultivation of 34 marihuana plants in the patio of his father’s home. 32 year old Marcelino M.P. from Santiago Pontones in Jaén province said he had used the plants to calm his nerves. His father said he had no idea what they were.
