email this articleChildren from Jaén province are studying in Motril to get a respite from the allergyThe first of 78 school children who will spend the rest of the school term on the Costa Tropical arrived at the Federico García Lorca Residence in Motril this weekend, under a special programme run by the regional government’s education department.
It’s the programme’s fifth year, and it aims to provide a respite for children who suffer from hay fever, particularly those allergic to olive pollen.
More than 90% of this year’s pupils come from Jaén province - the largest olive-farming district in the country. The Jaén Allergy Association, Alerja, says 28% of Jaen’s population are hay fever sufferers.
The children will attend schools in Motril, only returning home for their final exams at the end of the school year.
