Unions say a dozen of serious injuries have occured during the construction of the link to Córdoba

A worker on the AVE high speed train line construction between Málaga and Córdoba suffered an open fracture to a leg yesterday when he fell from scaffolding in a tunnel in the Abdalajís valley.

The stretch of railway line has become an accident nightmare with a dozen or so such serious incidents according to the unions CCOO and UGT.

CCOO spokesman, Paco Díaz, told 20 minutos that the problem was made worse by the use of sub-contractors who were then working excess hours and to unrealistic deadlines. He also commented that the AVE tunnels were particularly complex.
