email this articleThe Sun newspaper names him as Keith Ayre from Essex, and says his skull was smashed by muggersPolice are investigating the murder of a British tourist on holiday in Benidorm, who was battered to death by a gang of muggers, according to information published in the Sun newspaper on Tuesday.
Named by the Sun as 39 year old Keith Ayre from Basildon in Essex, he was on a short weekend break to visit his retired father, and arrived in Benidorm last Friday with his girlfriend.
The paper says Mr Ayre, who was a warehouse manager with Asda, was alone when he was attacked. They say it happened after an evening meal in the town, when he was on his way to buy cigarettes.
His skull was smashed with a hammer when he refused to give the muggers his wallet.
