email this article The rubbish strike which began on Friday led the Town Hall to take the decisionAs the rubbish strike continued in Almuñécar yesterday, a group of demonstrators cut off the N-340 coast road in protest at the Town Hall’s decision to cancel the local fair, due to start today.
It was cut off on two occasions: first, at 6.30 for approximately 20 minutes, then later at 8pm. There were also reports of rubbish being dumped outside the Town Hall building.
The first negotiations meanwhile took place yesterday between the striking workforce and management: the lengthy meeting was taking place under the auspices of the Junta de Andalucía’s arbitration service, Sercla.
Ideal newspaper reports this morning that some progress was achieved, but a sticking point was reached when El Mirlo management would only accept starting the payment of unpaid salaries from September.
Granada City Hall has offered its help in clearing up the accumulated rubbish from the streets of Almuñécar once the conflict ends.
