They told the paper that they think their daughter is still alive and could be in Spain

The parents of missing British youngster, Madeleine McCann, who went missing on the Algarve in Portugal 111 days ago, say they think their daughter is still alive and in Spain.

Kate and Gerry Mc Cann told the El Mundo newspaper in a telephone interview that they still believe that there is a real chance of finding the child alive.

‘If someone has a car’, they observed, ‘it’s evident that they could cross into Spain – there is no control on the frontier’.
‘We don’t have the smallest doubt’, the said, ‘we completely trust our friends’, and they insisted that Madeleine would not become just another statistic.

It’s understood the couple got in touch with the Spanish newspaper as part of their continuing strategy of keeping the story alive in the world’s media.

The couple said they had received a lot of support from the Spanish people and that they had treated Madeleine’s disappearance as if she was a Spanish child.
Meanwhile in a separate case, two teenage girls, aged 15 and 13 from Pontevedra, who disappeared on Sunday, have been found safe and well.

Patricia Rodríguez and Joana Couto were found to be in the company of a 25 year old local man, known as ‘El Ermitaño –The Hermit’.

He has been arrested and is believed to have shared a flat with the older sisters of the missing girls.
