Dani Vidal took 6 hours 20 minutes to make the crossing in tough conditions

Spain’s Paralympics Champion Dani Vidal has succeeded in his attempt to swim the Strait of Gibraltar, despite the fact that he has no left arm and only half of his right. He lost his limbs in a childhood accident when he was electrocuted.

It took him 6 hours 20 minutes to make the crossing on Wednesday, and he had to face side winds of 4.2 knots when two miles off the African coast. He had left Tarifa just after 7am on Wednesday morning, accompanied by two support boats.

After the historic crossing, he told the 20minutos.es website that he felt very proud and satisfied to have completed the test which was a personal ambition. He said he would not deny that he arrived very tired, but he noted that his recovery had been quick.
