Local residents have been demanding the closure of the tip for some years

The Supreme Court has ruled that the rubbish tip used by ten municipalities at the Els Cremats Sierra in Elche is illegal and has to be closed. The Supreme Court thus ratifies a sentence issued initially in March 2003.

The plant has been at the centre of controversy for years with local residents demanding its closure, because of the 730 homes nearby.
