The boy is now back with his family
A seven year old boy, who became lost in the woods in Burgos overnight, is back home safe and sound with his family, after finding his way out, guided by smoke from a chimney.
The boy's father left his son sleeping in the van while he and his friend went in search of firewood. He had disappeared to look for his father when the two men came back just a few minutes later.
Guardia Civil, local police, Cruz Roja, and local volunteers were combing the area throughout the night searching for the little boy, and were only waiting for first light to call in Guardia Civil divers to search a nearby river. But he had spent the night under a tree, too scared to leave its safety to find the searchers he could hear calling for him in the distance. Once dawn came, the seven year old followed the smoke from a chimney in a house in the village of Sobreviña, some two kilometres away, and was sitting happily eating breakfast when his parents and the Guardia arrived to collect him.
