Spectator killed in Campo Real bull run and leading Spanish bullfighter carries on after being gored

As the news came earlier this week from the animal rights foundation, Altarriba, that bullfighting celebrations in Spain only survive thanks to public subsidies, the tragic news came from Campo Real, in Madrid, on Monday that a spectator was killed on Sunday by a bull which jumped the protective fencing set up for the annual fiesta celebration.
It happened at the bull run on Sunday morning in Calle Príncipe.
He is named in reports as a local man, 47 year old R.S., who went into cardiac arrest after being injured by the bull.
The Mayor of Campo Real, Concepción Guerra, told the EFE news agency that the safety barrier complied with health and safety conditions laid down by the Autonomous Community of Madrid, and said it had been inspected on a daily basis.
All other festivities were cancelled as a mark of respect.
In Albacete, meanwhile, the bullfighter, Cayetano Rivera Ordóñez, is in hospital after being gored while meeting his first bull in the ring on Monday.
He went on to continue the fight after being gored in the right leg and applying a tourniquet to the wound himself.
It was his third such injury this summer.
He has been operated on in hospital and is said to be in a serious condition. He has a 7cm wide goring which went 15 centimetres deep.
