Pope John Paul II is one of those depicted in the collection of collages on show in a former church
The Bishop of Ibiza, Vicente Juan Segura, has described a collection of collages currently on exhibition in a former church in Ibiza as offensive to Catholics, and says he will revise agreements in place to cede church buildings for Town Hall use if it is not withdrawn.
The collection by the artist Ivo Hendriks is entitled ‘Vamos a Ibiza’ – ‘Let’s go to Ibiza,’ and depicts religious figures in homosexual sexual positions. One of them is Pope John Paul II.
The exhibition was authorised by the Town Hall and is due to run until the end of the month.
The councillor for culture, Sandra Mayans, told El Mundo newspaper that the exhibition is taking place in a church which is no longer used for worship, and that it will not be immediately cancelled as the Bishop has asked.
