It happened the day before he was due to return home to Austria

An Austrian helicopter pilot died on Wednesday after his aircraft came down onto the CA-4202 road in Cádiz province, in Conil de la Frontera.

He was 30 years old and lived in Conil itself.

EFE reports that he was a light aircraft instructor at the Medina Sidonia airbase and was due to return home to Austria on Thursday.

The accident happened at 12.30 pm when the helicopter crashed into electricity cables near the port and went out of control. The pilot died instantly after managing to veer the machine towards an empty plot as he tried to avoid hitting any houses, but crashed into the wall of one of the properties below.

There were no other injuries in the accident, but electricity supply to the area was cut off for a number of hours.
