Sterling Vorus will however have to register in the court in La Linea every fortnight

A judge in Algeciras has today released the Captain of the 'Odyssey Explorer’ who was arrested yesterday for trying to stop the Spanish authorities carrying out a search of his vessel.

However the United States Captain, Sterling Vorus, will have to appear at the court every fortnight as the charge of disobeying authority remains in place against him.

The ‘Odyssey Explorer' was escorted at gunpoint into the port of Algeciras, on the orders of a judge based in La Linea, investigating allegations of the pillage of Spanish heritage.

The Odyssey company has claimed to have recovered 150 tons of gold and silver coins and other items from a vessel codenamed ‘black swan’, the location of which they refuse to release.

The Odyssey company has limited its comments to say the treasure was found on a wreck outside Spanish waters.
