email this article Six workmen died when a viaduct under construction over the Río Verde gave wayIt’s now two years since six men lost their lives when a viaduct under construction on the A-7 motorway near Almuñécar collapsed on 7th November 2005, in the worst accident at work ever seen in Granada province.
Twenty four months on, the case is still in the instruction phase, and no-one has been brought to trial for their deaths.
All that is known, is that metal fatigue was the probable cause for the supporting platform to give way, with a ruling also from the instruction judge this August that neither the Development Ministry or the main and sub-contractors had carried out maintenance and safety checks as they should have.
