email this article Adelina Entrena left one man inside for more than a year after she ruled to acquit him of chargesThe Motril judge who forgot to release three prisoners from remand has been expelled from the profession, with a meeting of the General Council for Judicial Power, the body which oversees the judiciary, on Wednesday agreeing the decision with 13 votes in favour and two against. It comes after a recommendation from the CGPJ’s disciplinary committee last week and is, in the words of the CGPJ’s spokesman, Enrique López,‘one of the most serious sanctions ever imposed in the Council’s history.’
The judge who was the head of Criminal Court No. 1 in Motril, is already under a five-month suspension dating from October for preferential treatment during the course of her duties towards her ex-husband. EFE said she tried to delay his hearing for alleged threats by asking the court secretary to put it at the back of the queue.
Wednesday’s decision was taken on the cases of two prisoners, who were each in prison for more than 30 days after their due release date, and whose cases were archived by the Andalucía High Court of Justice, the TSJA. What it left out, was that of José Campoy Maldonado, who case has yet to come before the TSJA. He was left inside for 437 days after the judge forgot to inform the prison that she had acquitted him of robbery.
