Police have seized 38,000 ecstasy tablets, which would have been distributed over Christmas

The Organised Crime and Drugs Squad of the National Police have arrested eight people in Tenerife and seized 38,000 ecstasy tablets as part of a four month anti drugs operation.

Seven of the people under arrest are Spaniards. The other is Colombian.

Police say they brought the drugs in from Belgium, and planned to distribute them on the island over Christmas.
The network, and their regular contacts in Holland, had been under surveillance since July. They had established an entire infrastructure of drug dealers, financial backers, carriers, and intermediaries, which was set up to sell the ecstasy tablets on the island for a market price of ten euros a tablet.
