Political news got only 19% in Spain on a Europe-wide survey of preferred topics of news

Spain is the European nation which is the least interested in hearing about political news it seems, according to a new survey which reveals that only 19% of Spaniards wants to hear about events in the world of politics. It compares to a European average of 34%.

Sport, as in the rest of the European Union, is the top news interest, where 40% of all Europeans and Spaniards questioned in the results published by the European Commission gave it the number one spot. While the average Spaniard may not be a political animal, at least according to the survey, he or she is seen to be a person of culture: art and culture came in a close second behind sport, with 39%.

Mr and Mrs European Average – 35% - preferred the lives of the famous as their second preferred topic of news, and put cultural themes into fourth place. Only 25% of Spaniards said celebrities were their favourite topic, putting Spain second to last in the celebrity news league table.

Politics were most popular in Germany, Denmark and Estonia.
