Debate in England over a possible Spanish goalkeeper

Spanish media has picked up on what it says is a debate in the U.K. over the future of the Spanish goalkeeper for Arsenal, Manuel Almunia.
Following his dramatic penalty save against Robbie Keane, which led to Arsenal avoiding defeat at the hands of Spurs, an email from a viewer said ‘Almunia for England’. It seems that if the Spaniard takes out British nationality he could well become the goalkeeper for the England side. He’s commented that he would accept the post, if he is not selected for Spain.
The 30 year old from Navarra has spent the last four years in England, and that means he can apply for citizenship next year. He also notes that he has never been selected by Luis Aragonés to play for Spain.
