Town Hall asks the Junta to declare a public health emergency in Motril

The Town Hall in Motril has asked the Junta de Andalucía’s health department to declare a public health emergency in the town, with what unions say are 250 tons of rubbish piled up in the streets after three days of strike by the refuse collection service. The Partido Popular Mayor of Motril, Carlos Rojas, said in a letter to the regional health authority that it poses an obvious health risk to the people of the town, and asked for action to be taken as soon as possible.
It’s understood, according to information from Granada Hoy newspaper, that a workers assembly has rejected the latest salary increase offered by their employers, Limdeco, the company which is contracted for the rubbish collection service by Motril Town Hall.
The Mayor also called at a press conference for those responsible for setting rubbish containers on fire to own up, and asked for help from the public in identifying them.
