Their boat was found adrift off the coast in the early hours of Monday

An immigrant boat reached port in Tarifa at 5.30 on Monday morning, after the Civil Guard found the vessel adrift off shore in the early hours. There were 10 passengers on board, all adult males.

They were suffering from minor hypothermia, and were treated by Cruz Roja personnel waiting to receive them at the port. None needed to be admitted to hospital.

The Diario de Cádiz meanwhile reports on the six bodies which have been discovered off the coast of Barbate in recent days, and says investigations have not ruled out that they could have been passengers on an immigrant boat discovered in the area on New Year’s Eve. Its 10 occupants were picked up some hours after the boat was found.

The paper says the fact that one of the immigrants swam to shore gives more credence to the hypothesis that the bodies discovered were passengers on the same boat, and not on another vessel which has yet to be found.
