email this article The popular Captain has made it clear that he wants to stay at the clubTelevision station Telecinco has reported that Real Madrid is still to sign a new contract with their captain, the popular player Raul González. Raul is now 30 and remains on top form at the club, although he has been overlooked by Luis Aragonés for the Spanish selection for some time.
Club President, Ramón Calderón, met with the player’s representative, Ginés Carvajal, last week, and El Mundo reports that also present at the meeting and discussing their future were other players Iker Casillas and Michel Salgado.
Sources at the club say there is nothing decided as yet on Raul, while there are some reports that the player will be offered a new contract to take up to 2010 when he will be 33, renewed annually if the player takes part in a minimum of 30 matches a season. That clause sounds harsh to some, but it is the similar to the one recently signed by the other Real Madrid player Ruud van Nistelrooy who has to play 35 games a season.
Real Madrid fans would contest that Raul though, is special.
