email this article The idea comes from local businesses which think it would create a new metropolitan areaA new idea has emerged from the Business Confederation for Alicante Province, COEPA, of creating a single AVE high speed train station to serve both Alicante and Elche.
The station would be located at Bacarot between the two cities, and the idea has been put to the Ministry for Development. There is plenty of time to discuss the merits or otherwise with construction of the section not due to start for some seven years.
COEPA considers the idea of a single station would re-launch the entire area and create one of the most important metropolitan areas in Spain, and that the station would also serve the El Altet airport.
