Saint’s Day for Julián de Capadocia and Alejo de Falconeri.

1949: four members of the PSUC – Partit Socialista Unificat de Catalunya – are executed by firing squad.

1968: teaching of the Basque language is authorised in public schools in San Sebastián.

1983: Statutes of Autonomy are approved for Baleares, Castilla y León, Extremadura and Madrid.

1997: the National Policeman, Modesto Rico Pasarín, dies in an ETA car bomb attack in Bilbao.

The Ronda-born philosopher, essayist and educator, Francisco Giner de los Ríos, one of the most influential intellectuals in Spain in the late 19th-early 20th century, died in Madrid in 1915.
