Court case to continue against Murcia judge who delayed lesbian adoption

The TSJM Murcia High Court of Justice has turned down an application from the Murcia family judge, Fernando Ferrín Calamita, to have proceedings against him halted until his doctor says he is fit enough to go back to work. The judge has been signed off with depression, and is under investigation by the court for allegedly purposely delaying an application from a lesbian woman to adopt her partner’s daughter.
The court said in its ruling when it admitted the complaint for consideration recently that there is evidence that the judge could have ‘maliciously delayed the administration of justice.’
Ferrín already has two investigations against him in the General Council for Judicial Power, the body which oversees the judiciary. One is the same case which is under investigation by the TSJM, and there was news last week that the CGPJ’s inspectorate has proposed a fine of 1,000 €. They were originally expected to make a decision this week, but that is now expected to be delayed until the criminal case against the judge is concluded.
Judge Ferrín Calamita made headline news last year for another case, when he removed custody from a mother because she is a lesbian.
