email this article There was a simulated race as part of practice in Montmeló yesterdayFernando Alonso and the Renault team continued with practice at Montmeló near Barcelona last night on a day which had earlier been abandoned because of the weather forecast.
Instead the Spaniard took part in a fake race on the track in what was the last test session of the pre-season. He saw a slight improvement in times, coming in seventh, but it is clear that for now at least Renault will not start the season in competitive fashion.
McLaren and Ferrari are thought to lead the pack, although in the race yesterday it was the Toyota of Italian driver Jarno Trulli which came out on top, and Lewis Hamilton could do no better than tenth.
Fernando Alonso heads for Australia at the end of next week to get used to the climate and hour change ahead of the first race of the season.
