He was a local fireman and an expert skier

An avalanche at the Sierra Nevada ski resort in Granada on Wednesday afternoon has claimed the life of a man from Motril, a local fireman who was said to be an expert skier. Ideal newspaper said he was also an instructor for rescue courses and was specialised in mountain rescues.

It happened when he and another man were skiing off piste in the area of Los Tajos de la VirgenElorrieta, a route which he had followed on many occasions in the past. It’s understood that the avalanche was triggered after he fell and the snow became unstable. His body was found at a depth of three metres and all attempts to bring him round were unsuccessful.

Ideal names him as Antonio Moreno Moreno.
