The tram system will serve Almería City and connect with local train lines to Bajo Andarax and Poniente

The Junta de Andalucía is taking bids in the contract for the first stage of work for the tram system which is planned to serve Almería City, connecting up via local train lines with Poniente and Bajo Andarax. The contract is for an informative study and basic project, which will set out alternatives for the route and an analysis of the current demand for public transport in the metropolitan area.

The project is budgeted with 75 million € of regional funding, and the Junta de Andalucía’s chief of public works for Almería province, Luis Caparrós, told Ideal newspaper recently that he hopes the building work will be able to start at the end of next year or the beginning of 2010.
