Local residents want an environmental impact report carried out on planned new industrial use of the port extension

There was a demonstration in Alicante on Friday night against the industrial use planned in an extension to the port in the city. Some 800 locals, according to the police, 1,500 according to the organisers, protested about the building of silos in the new zone, and marched to the doors of the City Hall where a manifesto was read.

Famous Spanish ventriloquist, Mari Carmen, led the protesters who are concerned that the industrial activity will lead to pollution close to their homes. They are demanding that an environmental impact study be carried out.
