A German man crashed as was trying to land in Mutxamel, Alicante province

A 67 year old man from Germany, named by the Información newspaper as H.N.R., is in hospital with serious injuries, after crashing his light aircraft as he was trying to land in Mutxamel on Monday. It happened at the Alicante Aeroclub airfield on the Río Park Urbanisation on his third attempt at landing.

The paper said he suffered a broken ankle, torn knee ligaments and other injuries, but his life is not in danger. It’s understood he is not a member of the aeroclub, but was testing his aircraft after it had been serviced there. He came down on waste-ground to the left of the start of the runway, just a few metres short from the road into Río Park and Valle del Sol.

Información said the front part of the plane’s fuselage and the wings were left almost completely destroyed by the impact.

Just the day before, another pilot flying solo died in the neighbouring Murcia Region when he crashed coming in to land in Totana.
