He drove for 15 kms on the wrong side of the road before he was pulled over

The Alicante drink driver who was pulled over at the beginning of this month after driving for 15 kms on the wrong side of the motorway has escaped a custodial term as long as he does not re-offend within the next four years. He must also take a driver re-education course.

The prosecutor at the trial on Tuesday dropped his initial request of three years down to two, with the sentence then suspended by the judge as a first offence. The driver had told the court at his initial remand hearing after his arrest that he had no idea he was on the wrong side of the road until he was stopped by the Civil Guard in Crevillent.
