They were both in Jaén province on Tuesday within the space of two hours

Tuesday was a tragic day in Jaén province, where two workmen died in accidents at work, both within the space of two hours.

The first was in Alcalá la Real, at around midday, where a 60 year old man died in an accident on Avenida Iberoamérica, where a new hospital is under construction. The Jaén edition of Ideal newspaper said he was hit by a bulldozer and was pronounced dead by emergency services when they arrived on the scene. It’s understood that he worked for Sacyr.

The second was in Bailén less than an hour and a half later, where a local man, aged 52, was hit by a falling container of cement. He is believed to have died instantly. It happened at a site where a block of flats is under construction.

Canal Sur meanwhile reports that a meeting of the Junta de Andalucía has agreed a fine of 600,000 € for two companies in Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz province, for a serious infringement of health and safety regulations. It comes for a fatal accident at a construction site in the town in July 2001 where two workmen died and another was seriously injured.
