The initial autopsy on the two month-old baby appears to point to cot death

The initial results of an autopsy carried out on the body of a two month-old baby girl who died at her home in Torrevieja on Monday night point to the probable cause as sudden infant death syndrome, or cot death, according to information from the Alicante edition of La Verdad newspaper on Wednesday.

The child’s parents are reported as British, and they were interviewed by the Civil Guard on Tuesday in investigations into possible abuse, but the advance results released by the Forensic Institute on Wednesday morning now seem to make that less likely, the paper said. Sources at the Valencia High Court of Justice quoted by La Verdad indicate that they are not seen as suspects in the investigation.

The baby’s mother called emergency services out to the family home in Torrevieja shortly before 7 on Monday evening, but the team of experts were unable to do anything to save the child’s life.
