The Spanish television channel broadcast details leaked from the Portuguese police reports on the case, which have now been picked up by the British media.

The parents of missing British youngster Madeleine McCann, are upset at reports from the Spanish television company Telecinco, which has leaked parts of the official police statements the couple made to police in Portugal.

The quote from Madeleine McCann, allegedly made the night before she disappeared, in which she asks her mother why she did not come when she was crying during the night, has been placed across the front page of all the tabloid newspapers in the U.K. today.

The McCann spokesperson, Clarence Mitchell, said that the leak, broadcast by Telecinco, was intended to attack the parents, while admitting that the leak was protected under Portuguese Law.
The McCanns have meanwhile been in the European Parliament to support the idea of a Europe-wide Amber Alert system for missing children, similar to that seen in the United States.
