The new star of the MotoGP came straight from the podium in Portugal

It’s been a case of from the podium to the operating theatre for Jorge Lorenzo. The rookie Spanish driver who won the MotoGP race in Portugal at the weekend was admitted to the Dexeus University Institute Hospital in Barcelona yesterday to be operated on his right forearm which he injured on March 9.

He has been suffering from pain and a lack of strength and feeling in his right hand which controls the gas on the bike.

The operation lasted just under an hour, and the so-called compartment syndrome is a common injury for bikers. He is expected to be allowed home today and a statement will be made at the hospital at 1pm today. He hopes to race in the next Grand Prix, in China on May 4.
