New Chief of Police and the Guardia Civil in Spain is named

Francisco Javier Velázquez comes from being the Director of Civil Protection.

The Spanish Government has named Francisco Javier Velázquez, as the new Director General of the National Police and Guardia Civil. He comes from the being Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies and replaces Joan Mesquida in the post.

Velázquez was born in Castilblanco de los Arroyos in Sevilla in 1951 and is licensed in Political Science and Economics. He has occupied many posts in public administration since the first Felipe González Government in 1982. He’s a married man with two children.

Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, commented that the naming of Velázquez marked a continuation in the current team in the department which, he said, had carried out good work over recent years since the management of the two forces was combined.
