The fire broke out in the cabin of one of the lorries in the ferry's hold

A total of five people had to be attended to by medical services on Monday night for smoke inhalation after fire broke out on a ferry in Algeciras. It happened on the ‘Le-ris’ which was carrying 24 lorries and vans. Coastguard sources said that the fire broke out in the driver’s cabin of one of the lorries, for reasons still to be established.

Some 30 people including crew and drivers had to be evacuated from the vessel. Five were treated by medics at the scene for smoke inhalation and slight injuries, while two of them were taken to the Punta de Europa Hospital in Algeciras for continued treatment.
