1729 – The Mozos de Veciana, better known as the Mossos de Esquadra are given official character as the regional police force in Cataluña by Felipe V.
1814 – The French withdraw from Barcelona in the Spanish War of Independence
1922 – Santiago Ramón y Cajal retired from his academic functions and is named honorary rector of the University of Madrid
1923 – The last election of Deputies to the Courts of the Spanish Monarchy were held before the Civil War.
1927 – The Madrid – Lisbon – Seville airline was opened.
1931 – The Spanish cabinet authorised the use of Catalan in Cataluña primary schools.
1935 – The first edition of the Vuelta España cycle race.
1984 – Jordi Pujol from Convergencia I Unió won an overall majority in the Catalan regional elections.
1994 – The ex Director General of the Guadria Civil, Luis Roldán goes on the run.
2004 – Aragon became the third region of Spain, after Navarra and the Basque Country to recognise the right of homosexual couples to adopt.
2005 – Esther Yáñez González-Irúb became the first woman to command a Spanish navy war boat – the Laya d. patrol vessel.
