Phone warnings were made ahead of the explosions last night, following the imprisonment of Innocencia Galparsoro.

The Basque Terrorist Group, ETA, has placed three bombs overnight in the Basque region, which have resulted only in material damage. There have been no injuries.

The explosions are being seen as the terrorists response to the decision last night by National Court judge, Baltasar Garzón, to send Inocencia Galparsoro, the Mayor of Mondragón, to prison. She is from the ANV party, considered by many to be the political wing of ETA, and did not condemn the ETA shooting of Isaías Carrasco, an ex Socialist councillor in the town, two days before the General Election.

She faces charges of collaborating with an armed gang and of abandoning her duties. Garzón ordered the suspension of all activity of the ANV in February, and there is a process to declare the party illegal currently underway in the Supreme Court. Despite this the Mayor has continued to speak in the name of the ANV. A Socialist and nationalist attempt to oust her from power failed recently because of a lack of support from the other parties in the Mondragón Town Hall. Garzón has warned that other ANV councillors also face arrest, considering that they are showing ‘rebel conduct’.

The devices were of low power, and two of them were placed next to the offices of the Basque Institute for Safety and Labour Relations, OSLAN, in the Egia district of San Sebastián.

A first explosion, close to midnight, occurred in a warehouse owned by the Ministry of Employment in the Vizcaya town of Arrigorriagaz, and caused severe damage to the façade of the building.

Phone warnings in the name of ETA were made to the DYA breakdown service.
