email this article Trade Unions have organised a large rally in Madrid today.Spain celebrates the Day of the Worker today, with unions CCOO and UGT organising a joint rally in Madrid and demonstrations in other points across the country.
The slogan chosen this year is ‘It is the moment for equality, a decent wage, and productive investment’.
One of the long-time demands of the unions is for action against accidents in the workplace and tragically yesterday saw four such fatalities, two in Galicia, one in Madrid and another in Zaragoza.
A 46 year old man died in Ortigueira in A Coruña when he fell down an open lift shaft from the third floor of a building, a man died in Seoane, Ourense, when he got trapped in packaging machinery, a 54 year old died in Madrid when he fell from a height of 12m from a crane in a supermarket warehouse, and in Zaragoza a 30 year old man died when the lid of a shredding machine fall on him in a plastic bag factory.
