The Caso Andratx in the Palma courts is expected to continue for some months with as many as 68 different penal causes in the case summary.
The ex P.P. mayor of Andratx, Eugenio Hidalgo, has denied that he knew that his own villa on Mallorca was illegally built on rustic land. He made the claim on the first day of the court case in which the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor wants to show the court in Palma de Mallorca that the ex-mayor acted as if he owned the town.
The prosecutor considers that Hidalgo and three civil servants, an architect, lawyer and building assessor, engaged in private business deals while at the same time allowed illegal urbanisations to be built. The court summary is split into 66 different penal causes.
Andratx, on the west of Mallorca, is one of the areas of the Balearics to see most extensive building. In court on Monday Eugenio Hidalgo apologised for converting a small agricultural building into his home ‘without knowing it was illegal’ and claimed the case was all a complot against him.
