59 new immigrant arrivals on Tenerife

There were two women in the group of travellers from the Sub-Sahara area.

A total of 59 sub-Saharan immigrants have arrived in the port of Los Cristianos on Tenerife, after being intercepted by the coastguard when to the SE of Gran Canaria. A coastguard spokesman said that there were two women among the travellers who were first spotted at 4,30pm last night by a patrol plane from the Spanish Air Force.

A helicopter and coastguard vessel was sent to the area and the travellers finally arrived onland at midnight last night. The Red Cross says all of them are in good health.
