The child's father was worried that his wife was suffering from depression and the baby's life might be in danger.

The six month old baby, who was thrown off the coast of Fuerteventura on Wednesday afternoon, has died. The child had been admitted in a critical condition to the Insular Hospital on Gran Canaria in a critical condition after suffering a blow to the head.

The child’s 36 year old mother remains in the custody of the psychiatric unit of the Guardia Civil in Fuerteventura, reported to be suffering from a severe case of post-natal depression.

Reports say the mother threw the baby from a ten metre high cliff. The child’s father had apparently tried to get the mother to admit herself to hospital and to take the baby away from her.
