20 minutos reports that foreign mothers have to have been legally in Spain for two years before giving birth in order to receive the payment.

The Spanish press today covers the revelation that the famous baby-cheque of 2,500 € introduced by the Government is not being paid out to couples when the mother is a foreigner.

20minutos reports on a case where a Spanish man and his Peruvian wife have been told they have no right to the money, as the law insists that the mother be Spanish, or have been legally in Spain for two years before the birth.

Those affected by what they see as discrimination have protested to the Ombudsman over the law.
