email this article The speed is the conclusion of an investigation carried out by Guardia Civil experts from Madrid.Reconstruction of the Benalmádena Coach Crash which took place on April 19 on the A7 motorway in Benalmádena, in which nine Finnish tourists died and another 42 people were injured, has shown that the Spanish driver of the KIA Sportage four wheel drive vehicle which was in collision with the coach, was travelling at 155 kms/hour at the time.
The 27 year old driver had told the Civil Guard in the ambulance as he taken to hospital that he had been travelling at between 130 and 140km/hour.
Diario Sur reports that it’s now also known that the KIA driver, 27 year old J.G.R. has a previous record for three separate traffic violations. One for riding a moped without a helmet in 2000, a fine in 2004 for driving without insurance, and lastly in 2005 for failing to observe a stop sign.
After the Benalmádena crash an alcohol breath test found his level to be 0.50mg, double the legal limit of 0.25mg.
The speed of the collision was determined by Civil Guard experts who travelled to Málaga from Madrid and who have concluded the KIA was moving at 155.3km/hour and the bus at 99.9km/hour when the collision took place.
