Two of those arrested today, International Internet Day, are aged just 16.

Five of the most serious hackers on the Internet have been arrested in Spain. National Police consider the group to have been very active, with 21,000 pages being hacked over the past two years including that of the left-wing coalition IU during the last election campaign, as well as acting against the webs of phone companies, and government sites in the United States, Latin America and Asia.

Two of those arrested are aged just 16.

Curiously the police chose to act on Saturday, International Internet Day, arresting the five students in Barcelona, Burgos, Málaga and Valencia.

Despite acting as a group online, the five are not thought to have known each other personally. Police say one of those arrested had published articles on the internet giving instructions on hacking, and had designed his own malicious programs which would exploit security weaknesses and system vulnerabilities.
