The operation at the Sant Pau hospital took ten hours to complete.

Surgeons at the Sant Pau Hospital in Cataluña have reconstructed the penis of a 26 year old man who had his member cut off during the armed conflict in the Ivory Coast.

The medics from the Puigvert Foundation used skin from the man’s forearm to morphologically create a new and functional penis which has allowed the patient to recover sensitivity, urinate while standing and even have orgasms and ejaculate, according to Doctors Eduard Ruiz Castañé and Jaume Masià who carried out the procedure. He cannot however achieve an erection, but will soon be fitted with a hydraulic device to cope with that.

The reconstructive surgery took ten hours. The same surgical team has two more candidates waiting for the operation, both of whom have lost their penis to cancer.
